Asbestos roofing sheets, composed of asbestos fibres mixed with cement, were once favoured for their durability and fire resistance. Commonly used in industrial and agricultural buildings, they offered excellent thermal and acoustic insulation at a relatively low cost. Despite these advantages, significant health risks associated with asbestos exposure have led to a decline in their use, especially in residential roofing. The removal and disposal of asbestos are challenging and costly, and many countries have now banned or restricted its use due to these hazards. Consequently, safer alternatives have largely replaced asbestos roofing sheets.
